EJ’s Art Picks #45

May 1st, 2012

Things are rolling along with the ups and downs of a busy spring. Last week I was in Portland working on Fresh Vol. 5 in typical Northwest spring conditions—surprisingly freezing.  I still had a great time in the field with my “girls” ( farmer term for his milk cows)  even in the biting cold.

I finally got cozy by the fire and managed to find some odd but interesting art picks from eBay…

Eloisa Schwab is a Cuban painter with good auction records and a charming style depicting everyday life. While it’s not my “style” this has a country charm and would work well in a craftsman style home or farmhouse.

Darigold’s Fresh Thinking Agency

May 1st, 2012

Even though I’ve been shooting for over thirty years, it’s always exciting to be driving down the road and see a photo I did on a huge scale. The Studio’s recent sour cream billboard was conceived by Darigold’s new agency, Wexley School for Girls. It was great working with such a talented group of creatives who are taking the design and feeling of Fresh magazine and incorporating the style of the publication on the advertising side. We’re super excited about this at the Studio and love to see Darigold moving forward in a refreshing way.

Video: The Benevolent Butcher–Bacon

April 12th, 2012

It was all about the bacon last week at the studio. Scott’s video of succulent bacon wrapped steak,  based on a recipe from our upcoming cookbook, About That Bacon was featured on The Huffington Post, and picked up by other influential foodies. If you haven’t had a chance to see the video, be sure to check it out below.

If you’re interested in receiving the recipe on a gorgeous postcard, email the studio and you’ll get a nice surprise in your mailbox in the upcoming weeks.  Meat lovers everywhere: here’s your inspiration for dinner tonight.

FRESH wins again!

April 10th, 2012

Great news! FRESH, our annual magazine for Darigold, is award winning once again.  We are excited to announce Vol 4 has been given the award of Excellence for Corporate Marketing, Campaign of the Year by IACP.

EJ’s Art Picks #43

February 18th, 2012

Here in the middle of winter the pickings are slim on the Ebay but by going through for a bit tonight I managed to find a few things to possible get your interest. Enjoy!

Pick #1

This is a really lovely art deco drawing- full of detail- I really like the architectural nature of it- probably a prelim drawing for an installation.

EJ’s Art Picks #42

January 24th, 2012

Well it has been a rock’n beginning of the New Year.  Scott and I went to the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco with Scott’s Top Pot Doughnut book being featured in the Chronicle Booth – So he and the Top Pot boys gave away doughnuts and sample cards from the book.  We also did a lot of running around, tasting all kinds of good things coming to market- we hit Tartine for a bakery bonanza and I manage to see the Richard Serra show that was up at the SF MOMA.

All and all a fun way to start the year-  But now back to the business of everyday and catching up on art and design.

I am going to start with something that is not wall “art” but something totally affordable and will become tomorrow’s collectables for the cool set…we’ll all be dead but it will make a good estate sale item!

Pick #1

Stephen Antonson  (http://www.stephenantonson.com ) has been cool for a long time- his work has been in places like Elle Décor, World of Interior etc…. but  unless you lived in NYC or obsessed over the pages of design mags you’ve probably never saw his work.  But now West Elm is featuring his work – as in selling it at great prices- I am going today to get a couple of the shelves and maybe a lamp- They are very Jean Cocteau, Jean Michael Frank era feeling-

Whimsical and surreal – not to be take too seriously but then again you could put any of it in a “serious” interior and have it look great.

EJ’s Art Picks #41

December 19th, 2011

Down to the last minute-

I wasn’t going to do another column this year but, yes, well – I know there are those loyal few who would miss the errant column and note my laziness in a large ledger someplace…

So to those who need the very last minute gift I’ve come up with just a few choice items…

Please do have a peaceful holiday and join us here next year we have so many new things coming through the studio that it just about blows my head off some days and will make you wonder when we sleep- stay tuned in 2012! Cheers  EJ

Pick #1

A couple of years ago I was looking through the Museum fur Gegenwart in Berlin which is a converted train depot- any rate there was an artist who had thought of this idea too – but having it all on one page (instead of a huge installation) is quite compelling-

Featured in CA, AGAIN!

December 9th, 2011

First it was our G magazine and now the latest issue of  Darigold Fresh is being featured in Communication Arts-  We feel so lucky to have them feature us again!

There are still a few copies at the studio so if you’d like one just get in touch with Jenna

Hung Up! & Hang it Up!

December 6th, 2011

Much to our delight and surprise Darigold HQ has printed up dozens of huge cow images from the ever growing library of photos we’ve done in the past four volumes of the magazine, FRESH.

The 2012 calendar Ladies of the Field is here!  This is so fun and cool.  Darigold is loving the cows (as everyone should) and this year, for the first time they have asked us to do a “cow-lendar”, we LOVE it!

If you’re not on our mailing list and want one, send Jenna an email and she’ll get one out to you.
