AP Studios / The Soup Ladies

I am getting through the last of our shoots for the latest Darigold FRESH Volume 6.  It never falls short of being one of the most fun things I do all year, I never know what I’ll be shooting or who I’ll meet.

When I met up with Ginger Passarelli (i.e Mama) of The Soup Ladies at Mama’s in Black Diamond, she had just returned from Oklahoma.  There they had been setting up kitchens, and feeding victims and first responders of the devastating Moore tornado.

Ginger and her Soup Ladies team are truly remarkable.  Aside from their upbeat nature and contagious laughter, they serve up piping hot, hearty, high calorie soups (the secret ingredient: sour cream) to first responders and communities in the face of disaster.  And they’re fast.  Like, soup’s up even before the Red Cross arrives fast. And their entire operation is run on personal funding and donations.  Rapid response and fab soup – we just had to feature The Soup Ladies in our upcoming edition of FRESH Volume 6.

That’s me (the one with the hat!) in a post-shoot photo op with Ginger Passarelli and fireman Tim Perciful, in front of the Soup Ladies mobile kitchen.
